Lanka Bandaranayke is an award-winning filmmaker and scholar from Sri Lanka. She is also the Founder and CEO of Lanka Cine (PVT) Ltd, which produces socially responsible films. Her short films, including Tradition (2016), Inheritance (2020), and Mahasona (2021), have been screened at various international festivals and received awards. She partnered with organisations like the British Council Sri Lanka and several UK universities for documentary collaborations. She participated in film development programs such as the Film Independent-Global Media Makers 2022 in the USA and Saari Residence 2024 in Finland.
She is also a Chevening Scholar, recognized for her leadership and academic achievements. As a social entrepreneur, she advocates for women’s empowerment and gender equality through media, research, and education. In 2024, Lanka received several awards for her leadership, social entrepreneurship, and career achievements, including the British Council of Sri Lanka Study UK Alumni Award, the Chevening Alumni of the Year Award, and the Bournemouth University International Alumni of the Year Award.
She is the South Asian industry partner for the Developing Media Decolonisation Imaginary (DMDI) research at Bournemouth University and the Country Chair for Sri Lanka in the Arts Leadership and Films win of the G100 Global Women Leaders collection.
