Kingwa Kamencu is a writer, journalist, and social innovator based in Nairobi. She is the founder of Blackstar Media, a communication firm that works with visionaries and changemakers. Holding the vision of being the media house for the global south, Blackstar Media’s goal is to reach and actively spotlight 1 million changemakers from Africa and the global South in the next 10 years.
With a background of more than 20 years in the media, Ms Kamencu has also had a voluble presence in the world of politics, as a senior political party official and eventual presidential candidate of the Labor Party of Kenya (LPK). She is currently the Kenya Chairperson of Voice of Media (VOM), a global union of journalists headquartered in Maharashtra, India. MSc Kamencu holds an MSt in Creative Writing and an MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford which she attended as a Rhodes Scholar.
