Peter Ward

Peter Ward is a 35-year-old Mechatronics engineer based in Uppsala, Sweden. As a global citizen, having lived in seven cities has shaped his diverse perspective. He holds a Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Western Australia and a Master’s by Research in Robotics from the University of Technology Sydney. He is currently pursuing a PhD at Ghent University in the intersection between machine learning and veterinary science.

Peter has a history of innovation and societal impact, from developing low-cost electric motorcycles and programming socially intelligent humanoid robots for healthcare. With an inventive spirit he has designed patented and award-winning autonomous robots for inspecting complex infrastructure, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

In 2022, he co-founded Enaiblers, an initiative to democratise diagnostics using AI-powered microscopes to address neglected diseases in underserved communities. With extensive field testing and having traveled to 12 countries with the scanners, his work has earned numerous accolades, including the 2023 Ghent Rotary Science Award.
